Former winemaker Frances Shoemack left the wine trade to found Abel, setting out more than a decade ago to make distinctive, contemporary perfumes from 100% natural ingredients. She works with master perfumer Isaac Sinclair and Dr. Fanny Grau to show that natural fragrance need not compromise on performance. Every ingredient comes from plants, yeast or fungi, with no petrochemicals. The house pairs the skill of its perfumers with current biotechnology and low-impact packaging. Shoemack still leads Abel, with a team across Amsterdam, New Zealand and New York City.
