Alaïa

Alaïa was founded in Paris in 1964 by Tunisian-born couturier Azzedine Alaïa, who ran a private dressmaking practice for nearly two decades before presenting ready-to-wear in the early 1980s. The house built its reputation on construction: molded knits and second-skin cuts that move with the body rather than concealing it, structure built into the fabric rather than layered on top. Alaïa died in 2017; Pieter Mulier served as creative director from 2021 to 2026, and the house's Paris studio now carries forward his engineering-first approach to the female form.
