Sacai was founded by Chitose Abe in 1999 in Tokyo, built on an idea of hybridization: splicing contrasting fabrics and silhouettes into a single garment. Abe reworks classic and utilitarian pieces through pattern reinterpretation, transforming familiar shapes into unexpected new forms rooted in daily life rather than occasion dressing. A menswear line launched in 2009, built on the same approach, and the house's signature remains fusing disparate materials and silhouettes into one unexpected construction. Abe remains the label's designer today.
