Lalique

Lalique began in Paris, where René Lalique, born in 1860, opened his first jewelry workshop in 1885 and worked gold, gemstones, horn, ivory and enamel into designs that broke with tradition. By the turn of the century he turned to glass, and in 1922 founded the Verrerie d'Alsace glassworks in Wingen-sur-Moder, Alsace, still the only Lalique factory. There, clear glass set against frosted surfaces, sometimes patinated or enameled, became the house's recurring contrast in crystal. The Wingen-sur-Moder workshop also produces the house's jewelry and crystal today.
