Under creative director Emily Smith, Lafayette 148 New York favors understated, art-centric design grounded in a New York sensibility, carrying craft and fabric choices from sketch to finished garment, a rarity among American ready-to-wear houses. Founded in 1996 at 148 Lafayette Street in SoHo by Deirdre Quinn, Shun Yen Siu and Ida Siu, the house remains vertically integrated, keeping concept, design and production together from its original SoHo floor to its present Brooklyn Navy Yard headquarters and its own production facility in China.
