6397 was founded in New York in 2013 by Stella Ishii, whose showroom, The NEWS, helped launch and introduce influential global designers to the US market, including Comme des Garçons and Maison Margiela. The label's name is the alphanumeric rendering of N-E-W-S on a telephone keypad, and it extends Ishii's own style and that of the women who work alongside her into ready-to-wear. Pieces favor understated, expressive shapes built for everyday life, with a nod to youth and counterculture, letting individuality show through.
