Yves Salomon was founded in Paris in 1980 by its namesake designer, third generation of a Russian-French furrier family that began trading skins after Gregory Salomon's arrival from Russia in the 1920s. His father, Boris Salomon, had already turned the trade toward spotted leathers and pop-colored furs for Parisian fashion houses; Yves Salomon built on that inventiveness with a house where fur, not trim, is the primary material, worked across close to a hundred types of skin, from badger to chinchilla, into pieces engineered to drape like fabric rather than traditional pelts.
